What are anti-wrinkle injections?
BOTOX® is the original and most extensively studied anti wrinkle cosmetic treatment on the market, trusted by millions to give them a more youthful and fresh appearance. Botox works as a muscle relaxant by temporarily reducing activity in the facial muscles responsible for facial lines like frown lines, forehead furrows and crow’s feet. When should I have them?
Starting treatment before wrinkles or lines form or set in can reduce their development and the number of treatments needed later
Is it uncomfortable?
The injections are usually very well tolerated and almost painless. Some patients may opt to use a numbing anaesthetic cream to make it more comfortable
Can I combine anti-wrinkle injections with other treatments?
Yes, many of our clients combine anti-wrinkle injections with other treatments like dermal fillers to achieve a more comprehensive result. We can create a personal treatment plan for you during your consultation.
Are there any side effects?
Usually most patients do not have any problems beyond some localised minor redness, bruising or swelling. Very rarely a droopy eyelid can occur but resolves after a few weeks.
How should I prepare for my appointment?
To minimise the risk of bruising, we recommend that you avoid alcohol, aspirin, and other blood-thinning medications for at least 24-48 hours before your treatment, if medically appropriate. It’s also a good idea to arrive with a clean, makeup-free face.
Is there any downtime after the treatment?
Anti-wrinkle injections are often referred to as a “lunchtime treatment” because there is no significant downtime. You can return to your daily activities immediately after your appointment. However, for the first 24 hours after your treatment, we advise you to:
- Avoid touching or massaging the treated areas.
- Refrain from strenuous exercise and activities that increase blood flow to your face.
- Avoid lying down for at least 4 hours.
- Stay out of direct sun and extreme heat (e.g., saunas or hot tubs).
Following these simple guidelines will help ensure optimal results.
What happens if I stop getting treatments?
If you decide to stop getting treatments, your muscles will gradually regain their full movement, and your wrinkles will slowly return to their pre-treatment appearance. The good news is that they won’t get worse than they were before you started.
