Why Your Neck and Hands Deserve the Same Love as Your Face
It is a common story in my Leamington Spa clinic: a patient arrives for a follow-up, absolutely thrilled with their facial rejuvenation, only to rest their chin on their hand and sigh. “Dr Noreen,” they say, “my face looks forty, but my hands look sixty.”
As an aesthetic doctor and GP, I see this daily. We are very diligent about applying SPF and serums to our faces, but we often neglect the two areas that are just as exposed to the elements: our neck and our hands. The skin in these “secondary” zones is structurally different; it’s thinner, has fewer oil glands, and sits directly over tendons and bones with very little fat for cushioning. This means that when collagen levels drop, the effects are visible almost immediately.
The Neck: Beyond “Tech Neck”
The neck is under constant strain, now more than ever thanks to the “tech neck” caused by looking down at our phones. This leads to horizontal creases and a loss of elasticity, often referred to as “crepiness.” For this, my “gold standard” recommendation is Profhilo. Unlike traditional fillers that add volume to a specific point, Profhilo is a high-concentration Hyaluronic Acid that flows through the skin tissues like a liquid moisturiser. It triggers a process called bio-remodelling, stimulating four different types of collagen and elastin. The result isn’t a “filled” look, but skin that looks tighter, smoother, and significantly more hydrated.
The Hands: Restoring Lost Volume
On the hands, aging usually presents as a “hollowing” effect. As we lose the fat pads on the back of the hands, the veins and tendons become more prominent, and the skin takes on a translucent, fragile quality. By using a soft Dermal Filler, we can subtly restore that lost volume. The procedure is surprisingly quick and comfortable, and the results are instant. It “cushions” the skin from beneath, softening the overall appearance and making the hands look rejuvenated.
My Professional Advice
Don’t wait until the damage is advanced. Prevention is always more effective than correction. If you’re already investing in your facial skincare, start extending your SPF and serums down to your chest and onto the backs of your hands today. If you’re ready to see a more significant change, let’s discuss how we can bring these areas back into harmony with your radiant face.
